On mobile phone headphones why is one lead shorter than the other?

The longer ones loops round the back of your neck and into your ear. Supposedly is makes them more secure, but I think it makes no odds really. Snookler is kind of correct but also the reason is to make it easier to tell the right from the left without looking at the earpieces all the time. Music is in stereo (most times) and it does matter which is left and which is right and usually fit in your ears at certain degrees.

But I agree with Snookler that it%26#39;s stupid. design to fit human%26#39;s body Same as above. yea snookler ir right .... u will notice the shorter one is the one that has a mic on it. its basically so that the mic is near ur face- for obvious reasons!
